First Long-Form Fiction Director Project
From A Woman’s Perspective 

CALL FOR WOMEN DIRECTORS TO SUBMIT SCRIPTS!!!

In the quest to develop women long-format fiction film directors, Women Of the Sun (WoS) in partnership with Mzansi Magic are calling for project submissions to which we will award R100, 000 (One Hundred Thousand Rand) for the production of Each of the Five 60min fiction film to be directed by women.


SUBMISSION DEADLINE - 3rd October 2011

PROJECT MAKE UP
In preparation for the production process, the selected directors will have the opportunity go through a series of three 3-day intensive workshops that will be imperative to equip them with fundamental tools and principles of fiction directing. These will be facilitated by local and international experts and will ensure that all directors direct on-time, on-budget and still get the results they want - a first long format fiction film they can be proud of.


TARGET
This project is open to Women who have not had the chance to direct a long fiction format, but have some experience in directing drama or other genres such as:
· Documentary directors
· Commercial directors
· PSA directors
· Assistant directors


SELECTION CRITERIA
To be considered for this project, you will need to:

1. Directors must Submit A Final Script
Any fiction genre: comedy, thriller, drama, horror etc.
Should include Synopsis, Log line and Tagline
Scripts will be chosen on the bases that they are entertaining, achievable with funds available (no further funds can be sourced).

2. Submit List of your principal team (writer, producer, camera, editor)
Though NOT compulsory, we encourage that teams consist of more than one woman.
Writers can submit a script and WoS will assist in selecting a director

RULES

· Selected scripts/project/director have to participate in the workshops in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban on the following dates:
- Script editing workshop - 3rd week October 2011
- Directing workshops - last week of November 2011
· Filmmakers will reserve copyright of the intellectual property
· Filmmakers will reserve the right to all DVD sales for two years (2years)
· Mzansi will advertise the availability of DVDs and their point of sale (distribution outlet) at no cost.
· Filmmakers reserve the right to enter the film into desired film festivals
· WoS reserve the right to screen the Films at its various platforms including The WoS Film Festival, of which filmmakers can take the opportunity to sell copies
· After two years all film rights revert back to Maznsi Magic.

Word of advice - given the minimal funds:
· Keep the Script simple i.e. only a limited locations, actors etc.
· The smaller the team the better - we highly recommend multitasking i.e. writer/director, DOP/director, writer/producer etc.
